Michael Barnes

Professor Barnes is a neurologist who has been working in the cannabis field for over 20 years. In 2018 he obtained the first prescription for cannabis in the UK for the boy Alfie Dingley with severe epilepsy. When the law changed later that year he established, with Hannah Deacon, the Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society which now has nearly 500 members world-wide. In 2020 he established the Cannabis Industry Council in the UK and remained Chair until 2023. He now is an active prescriber for children with severe epilepsy and also runs the Maple Tree Medical Cannabis Consultancy with Hannah Deacon. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of Drug Science T21 research project.
